Students toured the college, spoke to professors and students, and participated in a hands-on engineering activity as they explored the various careers available in the field of engineering.

Alex Meier and Chris Riley of our IT department at Riverside led an evening seminar on careers in technology for interested students and their parents.  Over a dozen attendees learned about the salary potential, the training requirements, and daily tasks of a typical IT professional. This presentation initiated the first of many Riverside Reports (seminars related to specific career fields) at RHS.

Special thanks to English teachers Stacey Lucas and Jaime McIntyre for organizing in collaboration with the Student Council officers a wonderful Homecoming week. The spirit days, parade, football game, and Homecoming dance were well-attended by both students and staff.

Art teacher Drew Hartman’s students have presented to all of us creative chalk drawings on the sidewalks behind the school adjacent to the parking lot. This is an annual activity for his students who truly enjoy displaying their artistic talents.

The Riverside volleyball program continues as one of the best athletic programs in Lake County..

Riverside varsity football players spent an evening with Bernie Kosar at the Mentor Barnes & Noble thanks to the efforts of assistant principal and head football coach  Dave Bors. Bernie signed and sold copies of his new book, and the Riverside football program received a percentage of the sales as a fundraiser.

Special thanks to Kelly Snyder who organized the Riverside Rocks 5K race and one mile walk as a fundraiser for the Mira Foundation.  This special event featured performer Theo Malkamaki and involved many Riverside students and staff as volunteers and participants. Kelly also is our lead person for the United Way here on the Riverside Campus.

Laura Poje, chairperson for the English Department, arranged for David Keltz, who impersonates Edgar Alan Poe, to perform for our students on October 20 in the auditorium. Keltz read from Poet’s literature and brought the famous American author to life in an engaging performance.
