The Riverside Local School District’s Board of Education voted to hire Dave Bors as the next Athletic Director effective August 1, 2018.
Bors has been with the District since 2010 and is currently an assistant principal at Riverside Campus as well as the head coach of the varsity football team.
“I can’t say enough about Dave. I know he will bring enthusiasm and the desire to take our Athletic Department to the next level,” said Superintendent James Kalis. “We’ve had a lot of positive changes in the department over the last several years – with the turfing of the football field and the renovated fitness center – and Dave had a lot to do with that. He’s not just focused on football, he’s looking at the entire athletic program to get us back on our feet after having several years of financial obstacles that the District has had to overcome. We’re at a very exciting time right now and we’re very happy to have Dave on board.”
Prior to his experience at Riverside, Bors was a teacher at West Geauga, Chardon and Carl F. Shuler middle schools and was the head varsity football coach at West Geauga High School (2007-2010), Defensive Coordinator at Chardon High School (2001-2007) and defensive coordinator and assistant coach at St. Peter Chanel High School (1997-2001). In addition, Bors was the head Boys & Girls Middle School Basketball Coach at Chardon Middle School, Assistant Boys and Girls Track and Field Coach at Chardon High School and the Head Boys Middle School Basketball Coach & and the Head Boys and Girls Track and Field Coach at Carl F. Shuler Middle School.
Bors graduated with his Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from John Carroll University in 1997 and received his Master’s Degree in Art of Teaching in 2001 from Marygrove College in Detroit. He then received his principal license in 2017 from the University of Cincinnati.
“The District is doing a lot of great things and the vibe in the community is tremendous and I’m very excited to be a part of all that,” Bors said. “Our students are invested. Whether it’s in sports or extra-curricular programs, they’re invested and I’m excited to give my full time energy to all those kids and families in order to make this entire community be a great place to live in.
“I’ll be doing everything in my power to make the Athletic Department a first class program. Sports teaches values and tough lessons and can often drive the culture of a District. I want to get as many kids involved and invested as possible and promote and celebrate all of our athletes. I want to collaborate more with our Booster groups and work together to share ideas and truly be a unified department between all sports.
“I also want to build on what George Bellios has done and thank him for everything he has put into Riverside. I appreciate him calling me eight years ago to sit down and talk. I can’t wait to get started because I’m really looking forward to it.”
