The news is out Riverside High School joins an elite group of high schools being recognized by U.S. News & World Report as a “2015 Best High Schools Bronze Award Recipient.” U.S. News & World Report announced the 2015 Best High Schools rankings, highlighting top-performing public schools on a state and national level. High School Principal Peter Hliatzos said, “This is quite an honor for our staff, students and community. We are exceptionally proud of the accomplishments of our students and highlight the quality education they receive at Riverside High School.”
The annual ranking of 19,753 public high schools in all 50 states and the District of Columbia are based on a variety of measurable academic outcomes as well as whether or not schools serve all students well, not just those who are college bound. Academic outcomes considered in the rankings include reading and math results on state proficiency tests, performance of disadvantaged students and college readiness performance based on advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate test data.
U.S. News differentiates high schools with gold, silver and bronze medals, using gold medals to indicate the greatest level of college readiness. In this year's edition of Best High Schools, 6,517 schools received medals. In the 2015 U.S. News Best High Schools, Ohio’s 871 public high schools were ranked No. 7 overall, with 19 awarded gold medals, 138 earned silver medals and 260 received bronze medals.
