Faculty and staff at the Riverside Local School District hope all of you are doing well during this difficult time. We are aware that many of you are concerned about grades for the second semester, and we want to address those concerns. Our hope, during this recent Stay at Home Order, is that learning has continued to move forward for our students. However, we understand that not everyone, students and caregivers, has had the same opportunity or ability to fully participate in distance learning. Therefore, we have developed some guidelines for grading for the final nine weeks of the 19-20 school year. All grades for the 4th grading period will be documented as a Pass or Incomplete. Please see below for an explanation of 19-20 final grades for Riverside students.

ELEMENTARY
Elementary students will receive feedback on the standards listed on the report card.
K-2 students:
Each standard addressed this fourth grading period will be marked according to each grade’s performance level indicator on the report card. Please understand that the fourth grading period has been modified, so all standards may not be addressed this year. Teachers have been working together to ensure cohesive learning for all students in a grade level, and they will continue to communicate with each other as we begin next year. Students’ final report cards will indicate promotion or retention based on the progress of each student over the course of the entire year.
3-5 Students:
Each standard addressed this fourth grading period will be marked according to each grade’s performance level indicator on the report card. Please understand that the fourth grading period has been modified, so all standards may not be addressed this year. In addition, for courses in which students earn letter grades, students will receive a Pass (P) or Incomplete (I) for the overall grade in that subject. Teachers have been working together to ensure cohesive learning for all students in a grade level, and they will continue to communicate with each other as we begin next year. Students’ final report cards will indicate promotion or retention based on students’ progress throughout the entire year.
Infinite Campus
At this time, assignments that have not been completed will be marked as missing in Infinite Campus. This means it will show up as a 0. This will impact students’ grades. Teachers are marking assignments this way so that parents and students have an understanding of what is missing and still needs to be completed. Because due dates are fluid, the percentage you see does not indicate the final grade, but merely shows that assignments may be missing. Credit for all missing assignments can be earned through the end of the school year.
MIDDLE & HIGH SCHOOL
4th Quarter Grades
Teachers will assign a Pass (P) or Incomplete (I) grade for the final nine weeks. This assessment will be based on the modified requirements of the coursework and student’s completion of that work during this time. A grade of ‘P’ indicates that the student has passed the requirements for this grading period for the courses for which they are enrolled. Students who have an ‘I’ grade will be given an intervention plan and an opportunity to earn a Passing grade through the early fall of the 20-21 school year.
Infinite Campus
At this time, assignments that have not been completed will be marked as missing in Infinite Campus. This means it will show up as a 0. This will impact students’ grades. Teachers are marking assignments this way so that parents and students have an understanding of what is missing and still needs to be completed. Exams and Second Semester Grades
There will be NO semester exams for 8th - 12th grade students. The second semester grade will be assigned as a Pass (P) or Incomplete (I). There will be no letter grades assigned for this semester. A ‘P’ indicates that students have passed the course and earned the credit. Because no letter grades will be assigned this semester, student GPA will not be calculated. In essence, cumulative GPA calculation has been put on hold. The GPA students had at the end of the first semester will be their GPA moving into the 20-21 school year. Students who earn an Incomplete (I) for the 4th quarter will receive an Incomplete (I) for the semester. If a student receives an Incomplete (I) for the semester grade, they will be contacted by their school counselor to set up an intervention plan to complete missing work. This intervention plan may carry over to the fall of the 20-21 school year.
OHSSA and Athletic Eligibility
The Ohio High School Athletic Association will count Passing (P) grades as credit towards the course, which will allow students to maintain eligibility for athletic participation. Riverside requires a 1.75 GPA to be eligible for sports participation. Students who had a 1.75 cumulative GPA at the end of the first semester will be considered eligible for fall sports. Students who did not have a 1.75 GPA at the end of the first semester, and wish to participate in fall sports, will be contacted by their school counselors to discuss eligibility and fall sports participation.
College Admission and NCAA Eligibility
We anticipate all colleges to make accommodations for the current crisis. If you are a student entering college in the fall, and need specific guidance or assistance with THIS YEAR’s college admissions, please contact your school counselor. Any student planning on attending college in the future - we do not have answers yet. Our school counselors will continue to monitor the information from higher education institutions in order to best support students moving forward.
