Leone Hired as Assistant Superintendent

We are pleased to announce David Leone is returning to Riverside Local Schools as the District’s new Assistant Superintendent, effective August 1, 2026.

Leone started his educational career at Riverside High School in 2010 as a Social Studies Teacher. During his tenure at Riverside, he served on the Building Leadership Team contributing to school improvement planning, data analysis and district alignment efforts. In 2018, Leone was hired as principal of Kirtland Middle School where he served for four years before moving into his current role as Director of Curriculum and Instruction at Auburn Career Center in 2022.

Leone holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and Theatre from Baldwin-Wallace College, a Master’s Degree in Education from John Carroll University, a Principal’s License from Cleveland State University and a Superintendent’s License from Miami University.

“I am extremely excited for the opportunity to serve Riverside Local Schools in this role and to contribute to the growth and success of the District,” said Leone. “Having previously served as a teacher in the District, I have a deep appreciation for Riverside’s commitment to students, staff and community. My time at Riverside provided me with a strong foundation and understanding of the District’s culture and community and I am excited to bring back an expanded skill set and perspective that will allow me to contribute at a higher level - supporting both the instructional direction of the District as well as the operations that sustain it.“

“David brings a wealth of experience back to Riverside and we are really excited to have him return,” said Superintendent Dr. Rateno. “David is a strategic educational leader with years of experience and success in instructional systems and organizational leadership. I have no doubt he will be able to align curriculum, professional learning and operational systems to improve student outcomes and district performance.”

Leone’s hiring was approved by the Board of Education at the May 21, 2026 Regular Meeting.
