Welcome to the Riverside Local School District College and Career Readiness Web page!
College and Career Readiness is important to our district as we strive to best prepare our students for their future lives. The cornerstone of college and career readiness is a belief that all students can build skills that will help them succeed whether they decide to continue their education beyond high school or head directly into the workforce. It is the goal of the Riverside Local School District to ensure that each student has a realistic plan for their years beyond high school while also developing the important skills necessary to be a productive citizen and employee.
The 2018-19 school year will bring new changes to the district as Chris Basich, former Riverside alumnus, teacher, and coach will step into the role of College and Career Readiness Coordinator. Chris plans to work hand in hand with both the school counseling and administrative teams to develop a "Riverside Road map", a detailed, grade-by-grade plan for student college and career readiness. Key elements of the road map are student long-term planning, extracurricular engagement, staff-student relationship building, development of study skills, and personal responsibility. Students will each be given a grade-specific road map and school counselors and the college and career readiness coordinator will check-in with students to ensure they are on track to accomplish their goals.
Beyond the "Riverside Road map", Chris will be focusing on improving the number of students attending college beyond high school, growing the Advanced Placement program at the high school, better assisting students who will not be attending college but have an interest in various trades or even starting their own business, and helping to identify students who have proficiencies in certain areas but may need assistance in getting started. Soft skills training such as interviewing, public speaking, etiquette, and social media precautions will also be addressed across the curriculum. Additionally, a collaboration with school counselors and administrators at the middle school level will help our younger students transition more smoothly to the demands of the high school social and academic environment.
The Riverside Local School District is excited to continue their efforts in the area of college and career readiness! For news and updates in this area please follow the RLSD College and Career Readiness page on Twitter @RLSD_CCR. For any specific questions please contact Chris at:
