READING AND WRITING:

PHONICS:
Learning and understanding phonics is a key component to becoming a strong reader. In grades K - 2, Riverside primary teachers utilize the Fundations program to teach young readers the building blocks of language. The website for the instructional program can be found here:
HANDWRITING:
In second grade, Riverside students receive explicit instruction in cursive writing. Teachers have used multiple materials over the years for cursive writing instruction, but in 22-23, all second-grade teachers will utilize Zaner Bloser for cursive writing instruction. MATH:

SCIENCE:
K-2- Primary teachers use district-created materials to meet the ODE state standards for science. Along with hands-on lessons and experiments, they incorporate informational reading and picture books to teach different concepts.
3rd-5th Grade Science- Upper elementary teachers use standards-aligned kits through companies such as Delta Education and Carolina Biological to make our science education hands-on and inquiry-based. We also utilize the digital resource called
Generation Genius to build background knowledge and deepen understanding.
